Detailed Description

Mace Night Defender Gel Pepper Spray with LED Flashlight

It is out on the streets at night when you are at the greatest risk of getting attacked by muggers, drug-crazed killers, or the kinds of street scum who get their thrills from hurting, or even worse, killing people. That is why most people try to avoid being out late, but many just can’t help it. They have to go to work, and many jobs require people to work at night. The solution to this is to bring a weapon for self-defense with you, yet it has to be one designed specifically for protecting people at night as well as in dark places during the day. That is where the Mace Night Defender gel pepper spray comes in.

The Mace® Pepper Gel Tactical Edge

Just about everyone knows all about the power of pepper spray, what with all the videos of law enforcement agents using it on suspects who are resistant to the idea of getting arrested. Regular pepper spray is not without its disadvantages, though. While it is unquestionably effective at taking down criminals, pepper gel is even better.

Unlike liquid pepper spray, gel pepper spray is thick, and this gives it several advantages. For one, blowback is not a problem. Spray a criminal who is coming at you with pepper spray, and if there happens to be wind blowing from behind them, the liquid can get blown right back at you.

Another factor in a pepper spray vs pepper gel comparison is the former’s tendency to cause overspray. There is a chance that the pepper spray user will miss the target and hit someone standing nearby. This makes pepper gel perfect for law enforcement use because its application is much more accurate, so spraying a suspect even in a crowded area or in a tight space is safe.

The Mace® Pepper Gel Night Defender has all those capabilities of the gel form, and it gives you an extra defensive edge at night, too. Besides this model, there are also the Mace® Pepper Gel Magnum Model, Distance Defense Spray Magnum-9 Model, Large Model, and Maritime Personal Defense Spray.

You could say this weapon is simply pepper spray with light. Or you could think of it as a tactical flashlight with pepper spray, as its powerful light is not just for seeing at night. This is really part of its arsenal. It is an LED (33 lux at 1 meter) light activated by lifting the spray’s cap. It lights the weapon’s path when you are holding the canister in the ready position with your thumb on the actuator. Whether indoors, outdoors, or anywhere the light levels are low, the built-in flashlight is just what every defense spray should have. The fact is, not all of them do.

This gel pepper spray is a 45-gram canister that holds 10 or 20 short bursts with an effective range of up to 18 feet. It is a handy 4 ¾ x 1 ½ x 2 ¼ inches.

One other advantage that the Mace® Night Defender Pepper Gel will give you is range. It will shoot out farther than a lot of other self-defense sprays, which means that you can stay far away from someone coming at you. And you will appreciate all the extra distance you can gain, especially if they are armed. This also gives law enforcers a lot of the range that they can expect with handguns in a typical tactical situation without the deadly force disadvantage they can’t avoid with firearms.

Turning the Dark to Your Advantage

Flashlight pepper sprays like this one will give you an advantage at night over defense sprays and other weapons that are not equipped with lights. Since the pepper spray gel’s light is an LED, it extends the nighttime advantage even more. LEDs are way more powerful and brighter than standard incandescent or even powerful halogen flashlights, but their advantages do not stop there. Their being very bright does not necessitate a huge power draw, either, meaning that their battery life is lengthened and the bulbs last longer.

Tactical lights do not only let you see security threats either at night or in a dimly lit place. They also let you aim your weapon much more readily in such situations, which is important when your life is on the line. Plus, they double as an extra weapon in themselves by allowing you to blind your target temporarily with the powerful glare, which in turn helps to stop them from continuing their attack.

Some operators, such as many police officers, use a separate handheld flashlight in conjunction with firearms, but weapon-mounted lights such as the one on this pepper gel leave your other hand free to open doors or push aside obstacles. There is also the possibility you might have to deal with a target using your other hand while still holding your weapon. So, a light already mounted on a weapon means the target stays illuminated.

Safe Self Defense

Pepper gel may have several advantages over standard pepper sprays, but it is got the same stopping power. Pepper sprays are popular not only among police officers but also among civilians because they provide a means of defending against violence on the streets while being non-lethal.

They drop suspects with a severe burning pain in the eyes and on the skin, which feels like it is causing permanent damage, but it really is not. No matter how much it really hurts an attacker, it will wear off after some time. Before that, though, you will have called 9-1-1, and your assailant will be in jail.

For maximum effect and range, remember that it is best to shake your pepper spray rapidly just before firing it. Certainly, that is only if you have the time, which you have to expect is not very likely.

The normal response of any attacker who has just been pepper-sprayed is to try and rub it off, but this only worsens the pain by rubbing the spray in, especially the stubbornly thick gel formula of the Mace® Night Defender. They will also get the substance on their hands, burning them further.
