Stun Guns for Home Protection and Personal Defense

Most of us hope to never have to face an attacker. If we could halt the attack momentarily, we would use this moment to run away but not to come closer and fight them. All we would want is to remove ourselves from the situation. Precisely, when a stun gun freezes the attacker in a temporary state of paralysis, we can make a break for it, with hardly any chance of them chasing us in their condition. Whether these are stun guns for home protection or self-defense, they will stop intruders, muggers, and other assailants from even lifting a hand to harm us.

Attacks are usually devised to surprise their target from up close, where it will be too late to escape. A mugger might pull your hair from behind or point a knife to your side. A rapist or physical abuser in front of you will strike before you know it. A thief can try to steal your wallet on the train or grab and run away with your phone on the street. At such close quarters, stun guns are excellent for self-defense in that they are non-lethal incapacitating weapons.

Just when every second counts, the electricity a stun gun releases will work immediately to prevent an aggressor from hurting anyone within their reach. However, that stopping power will not be so immense as to kill the targeted aggressor and have you be the bad person when you were defending yourself.

How Stun Guns Work

Stun guns are electroshock weapons, or those that function by sending out an electric shock. These ones in particular unload electricity through a pair of metal probes, which are wired to each device and should make physical contact with a live target to trigger incapacitation. That is, once your stun gun is activated, you then poke the target’s body with the now-electrified probes to shock that body.

As a result of receiving electric shocks, the body will experience pain, disorientation, and paralysis temporarily, for 15 to 40 minutes. The electric jolt will deplete the body’s blood sugar severely and thus force the body to try to replenish this, leading to excessive muscle fatigue and causing the body to be immobilized. Immobilization will occur for as long as the stun gun is pressed onto the body.

Half a second’s worth of an electric shock will be enough to inflict a great deal of pain and trigger muscle spasms. It will take merely three seconds of contact with a stun gun for a target to tumble over and fall to the ground. However, the electric charge is kept at a high voltage yet low current in order to be debilitating but not deadly. The top stun gun brands on the market, like Stun MasterĀ®, use low amperage consistently to ensure their products are reliable and safe.

Personal Stun Guns for Self-Defense 24/7

Being handheld compact weapons by design, stun guns are great to carry around at all times. The best stun gun for self defense is definitely a small stun gun because it is light and portable and can stay undetected on your person. Mini stun guns for women, for college students, or for runners have won half the battle just by being convenient to bring along, so that there is no excuse to leave them behind.

Size is not proportional to power in stun guns. For example, a RUNT Stun Gun gives you 20 million volts in the palm of your hand.

Many are made to be small flashlight stun guns, such as the Li'l Guy Stun Guns, since self-defense becomes doubly necessary at night. When a stun gun’s built-in flashlight illuminates, it can expose lurking predators. In addition, the glare can confuse their view, while the beam will help you aim. For sure, this kind is a good stun gun to buy as well if you want to be armed against housebreakers at night or when you go check the garage or yard for security.

Small, hand-sized weapons are easy to handle when you are in a nerve-racking attack situation. The typical handheld stun gun resembles a mobile phone or a remote control from afar, and these types are ideal to keep in stun gun holsters from where they can be grabbed at a moment’s notice. There are handy alternatives, like the Knuckle Blaster that is patterned after brass knuckles.

Covert vs. Intimidating Defense with Stun Guns

Compact stun guns are inconspicuous weapons to walk around with in public places owing to their size, more so if also hidden in plain sight in their harmless-looking disguises. Lipstick stun guns for women can take an aggressor by surprise, for instance, and the surprise factor gives added defense if the culprit is bigger and stronger than the would-be victim.

The Pretender Cell Phone Stun Gun looks like a camera phone from any angle, and no one will ever wonder why you have one in your hand. A clear first shot by a yet undiscovered, disguised stun gun can give you the upper hand against an assailant who might physically overpower you.

Green, blue, or pink stun guns, or those in animal or floral prints, wear a slightly different disguise, which is that of looking too fashionable to be weapons. Hardly anybody expects a disabling dose of electric current to come out of a pink-colored or snakeskin gadget.

On the other hand, tough-looking metal stun batons might be more effective for home defense or if intimidation is your preferred tactic. Usually, burglars are not looking for trouble beyond robbing houses that they thought were unoccupied at the time. They would take off at the sight of a baton stun gun and try another residence.

Law enforcement and security personnel are generally not allowed to carry covert weapons, and this could very well be a policy of your night watch program. In these cases, stun guns that come across as intimidating would help protect the users.

Stun guns come in numerous choices. What they all share is the ability to stop attackers in their tracks just when the attackers are close enough to be unstoppable.
